Brakes squeak
Hey guys I just got my brakes done an ever since than if I break lightly at low mph they like squeal. If I hit them hard or break at a higher rate of speed, nothing. Just like coasting to a stop sign or pulling onto a drive way. BMW says it's normal break in but idk??? Any ideas or they right
Try bedding in your brakes. Accelerate to 25mph and then aggressively push on the brakes until you come to a stop. DO NOT DRAG THE BRAKES. Do this 5-10 times. Then accelerate to 40mph and then aggressively push on the breaks until you come to a stop. DO NOT DRAG THE BRAKES. Do this 5-10 times.

I've been having the same squeak problem ever since I installed the Hawk HPS. Absolutely NO dust, however, I get the squeak creeping into the garage or backing out of a parking spot slooooooooooowly. I've bed the brakes several times and changed the rotors at a professional shop that have dealt with Hawk's before. Still no luck. In some cases it's a quick and light squeak but some days it's like a loud @$$ trumpet waking the neighbors! It's frustrating and embarassing but I say to myself : "at least my VMR's are spotless!!"
hmm, does the sound go away after the pads are warmed up? i haven't had any complaints about the HPS. :\

The sound goes away sometimes when it warms up. It's frustrating because it's very inconsistent. One time I tried to reproduce the sound by creeping forward with my foot barely off the brake but just couldn't do it. On new year's I went to a strip mall....backed out of a parking spot....and came to a stop and I kept squeaking away. I've been meaning to capture it on video and post it for some input, but I haven't had the time.
I also met a guy at a local gas station recently who was a member here (Jay with a white 530i....oem M5 front and oem mtech rear) and he said no matter what aftermarket pad he bought he always squeaked. He's learned to just deal with it.
There's no doubt the Hawk HPS's are definitely dustless with bite. I actually re-did my brakes...again...on Thursday and greased the pins and applied a thick layer of Disc Brake Quiet on the back of the pad and BG stop squeal on the face of the pad (per manufacturers instructions) and I squeaked for a second in reverse but not forward. However, it may be too soon to tell. I didn't start squeaking with the Hawk's until after 500 miles. I got the Stop squeal idea from a local mechanic who works mainly on european cars. He knew exactly what I was talking about and was pretty confident that the Stop Squeal would work. He said every brake job he performs on a MB, BMW, Audi, etc. he applies Stop Squeal. For anyone who has never used it the ingredients are alcohol and graphite.
If you're interested, I'll let you know how it's working out for me.

The reason for the squeaking is the brake pad sensor cable vibrating somewhere on the caliper - it's actually a design fault. If you disconnect the cable and tie it up in the footwell, it should get rid of the squeak - Though obviously keep an eye on your pad thickness every so often as you won't get a warning
Yes please do, if you can, I'd tie up the brake sensor as well just to see if that's the problem.

Dont use stop gunk or pad glue.. Anti-seize and auto marine grease. I personally always anti-seize all metal to metal contact where the pad mounts and slides, the backing plate all get anti-seize, the caliper guide pins get some auto marine synthetic grease. And not one squeak and I run stock pads on my M5 setup and even on my stock setup..
Shoot some brake cleaner on the disc and close to pad in the morning or when cool and see if that helps
