Ok, so I heard a little brake "squeal" from my car today. I wonder, how trustworthy is the iDrive info for this? My iDrive is showing that I have 32k miles on front pads and 20k miles on the rears - I don't really trust it though... I'm wondering if I should just take it to the dealer and have the brakes looked at...

Your i drive will let you know
just look at the pads you will see the thickness of the pads.
my say 7000k and still have 80% of pads left.

Yeah I wouldn't totally trust the idrive.
Visually check them.
Mine always squealed.
If you can change them early before the the warning comes you can get away without changing sensors.(I think)
I put some ATE pads in the front last month. They are good. Saved money, same pad just not in BMW box.

You'll know when the car can't stop.
Does it stop?
Does it stop?
Hehehe! That was going to be my answer!
Seriously though, visual checking of brake pads would probably be the
best bet.

Ok, so if I visually check the pads, how much is too little? Or do I check the rotor for grooves?
And yes, the car stops... though I do gear-brake and coast to stops quite often, so it could be bc of something other than brakes LOL

How does iDrive know when you've changed the pads or disk rotors? Does it detect automatically or is there something that needs to be reset? If something needs to be reset, how do I reset it???
