Indeed, but I'm shocked they claimed BMW know about the issue and are doing warranty work to resolve... I'll see if I can weed some more information out of the 'service representative'...

The guy said they're replacing all pads (front and back) and something about faulty senders for the pad thickness...

they told me the same thing..

it's pretty fuckin embarrassing to drive around and have a BMW squeak.

my maintenance is due 2k from now and im going to insist they change the brakes and rotors since I have the warranty covering it.

such bullshit.

I too had the squeaking problem. On my recent visit (27,000 miles) the dealer replaced brake pads and sensors, front and rear. Interestingly, the rear sensor says that in 13,000 miles I will need new brakes, so I wonder if this reset properly. The front service indicator shows over 30,000 miles left.

The dealer (off topic) also agreed that the wind noise was excessive and replaced the seal on the sunroof. Much much better now. Between the brakes and the sunroof noise, it is like having a new car all over again.

This is a us 525xi.

guys help me out with what I need to say to my service attendant..

Am I going in there claiming the brake senders are bad or the brake sensors , are these two different components?

I had my maintenance warranty extended to a 100k , im at 70k right now.

Last time I made a complaint the mechanic told me he didn't hear any noise and they said it was fine.. I think the next time the brakes squeak I should drive straight to the dealer and show them in person.

bmw is pissing me off.

This is how I handle my service department.

As I drive my car and notice issues to be addressed, I just make a running list. Then I take my list in with me and hand it to the service advisor.

With each issue, I typically come to this forum and research it. I find out as much as I can, and then I include that information along with my list.
For example, when I first got my car the radio would always turn on when starting the car, even if you turned it off when you parked. I came to E60 Forums and learned this was a software issue, and could be fixed with an update. So I put in my list that I knew this was a software issue and could be fixed by an update to version xx.x

They have always fixed everything I have brought to their attention, and done so under warranty. Just be polite and courteous and they are more likely to help. Nobody likes getting yelled at.

Try telling the advisor how many miles you usually have to drive and it's even better if you can pinpoint if the noise is coming front either front or rear axle.

Problem with warranty the claim has to verified or else the tech is not allowed to do any work.

Typically for me, most E60's with brake noise start howling after about 5 miles of non-highway driving. This is considered a bit of a long road test, as techs don't get paid for road testing.

I have aftermarket pads and they start squealing after the brakes are warmed up. Like BigLew mentioned after 5 miles of non-highway driving. Anyone know the reason for that? It's kind of embarrassing rolling up to a stoplight and your brakes are squealing and there's no bus or big rig in sight.

The most common reason for brake noise it the wear sensors. With aftermarket pads however, I couldn't give you a confident answer.
