I believe the break pads wear more quickly because of the compound that they use and the brake force, design, etc. From what I'm told, they have the best OEM brakes in the business, but that come with break dust and quick wear. However, since they are covered, I wouldn't be too concerned. When you have to pay for them, just get some that are made to last longer, but not stop as quickly. Also, unless they can tell that you've abused your brakes on a track, they should replace them for free under the maintenance program, not warranty. Until 4yrs or 50k miles, you are covered, so keep driving and stopping hard...the bills on BMW.
