Quick question. My dealership replaced my front and rear pads at 28k. I'm at 51k now, and idrive is telling me I only have 7k left on my front pads. Is this normal? Does the sensor read thickness on the pads?

Car is an '06 530xi. Miles driven is mostly highway.

Just a indicator that the pads are low at you have reach the point where the sensor is. I'll take a look at where the sensor is but I think you still have at least 20 % If you have factory pads now is a good time to go with a ceramic pads. I really dislike the way the factory pads dust the wheels with that brown crap.

If you still have maint warranty get the pads replaced free at the dealer. If you don't, hit up Michael (acuteperformance) for some Hawk HPS pads and you'll be much happier. The Hawks create much less dust and bite way better than OEM.

Sounds like it's time for me to do Hawk Pads and Slotted rotors. I had those on my WRX previously and loved them!

Although I'm within a hair of renewing my extended maintenance package. Car is CPO'd, I have literally two months left before I'm at the 4 year point.

51k - 28k = 23k + the 7k you have left thats... 30k About the same usage.

Here is a new factory sensor on a new ceramic pad.

30k just really seemed low, especially since the rears were changed at the same time and have a good 23k left on them.

At any rate... which ceramic pad did you go with, healthservices? I've got some time, to debate what to do next. Do I do it myself, or have them do it when they are doing Inspection II @ 60k. And to figure out how much Inspection II costs. My local non-BMW dealership, but European specialized independent has quoted me $500 for rotors, sensors and pads. I figure I can pick up the parts and DIY myself for around $300.

Posi-Quiet Ceramic

I put them them on benz, lexus, honda, and a couple other cars with no issues.

And a hell of a lot less dust!
