2010 550i m sport when parking mostly and changing direction wheather its fwd or reverse and the brakes are lightly applied it sounds like the pads shift and make like a medal on medal tap I drove with the tech @ bmw brakes arent due for another 30k and tells me its normal....WTF!?I work for a Toyota dealer and those shitboxes dont even do that nor does a regular car... what do you think is the dealer B.S ing me?

 

Check with another dealer. I haven't had that issue and I do my own brake jobs.

 

My 2008 550i does this as well and have taken it to 2 dealers and both confirmed that it is not normal and is exactly what you mentioned, pads shifting in the calipers when brakes are pressed. I bought my car a few months ago and did not hear it until windows were down, and its quite annoying, although both dealers said it is not hurting anything but if I wanted I could replace with OEM pads to resolve the clanking/clicking. I'm sure as I drive it more in he spring weather with the windows down ill probably ending up doing that even though I have about 25k left per the sensors.

 

So.what does the dealer say is the solution to get rid of the noise?

 

Replace the pads. They tried to adjust the pads to stop the noise but said basically they are just a hair to small causing the shifting in the calipers.

 

So in other words I'm stuck with sum sort of noise no matter what?

 

No, you can change them now vs later and that should eliminate the noise.

 

I have the same issue. OEM BMW pads. Never serviced during my owership of the car, still has several thousand miles left on them (per computer/diagnostic screens in iDrive). It only occurs here and there, I'd say less than once a week do I notice/hear it.

I DO NOT think it is "normal".

I DO think new pads would solve it.

 

car is still under warranty so ill go to them and make em put a new set in I also dont think in any way, shape or form this can be normal....

04 545i here and I have the same issues too, it sounds like metal cracking sounds, which occurs when i have the steering wheel cranked either way while backing up into a parking spot.
Annoying as heck since this is a BMW we are talking about.

Will replace with OEM and see what happens.
