Hey guys. I'm new to this forum. Very very impressed with the amount of info one can get here! From the smallest to the biggest of issues.

I picked up a 2004 E60 a couple of weeks ago. One issue I have noted.

The brakes judder just before I arrive to a final halt. I have read on some threads that this is due to a "soft-stop feature".

The funny thing is, this issue is non existent when I am in sports mode.

I am getting this checked out next week, but anything I should be aware of prior to that?

The 2004 E60 brake system does not have a soft-stop or a hill-holding feature.

Judder or vibrate? Could be warped rotors.

Judder. I'll feel it once or twice. The sensation is like the brakes let go for a split second and then clip again upon final halt.

Could be warped rotors. But like I said, it only happens when I am not in sports mode.

could it be viewed as a niggle? or a true judder?

seriously... sounds like warped rotors... its odd though that it only happens in sport mode.

hhmm.. maybe more a niggle.

No vibration to steering wheel, and only happens when I approach a final halt. If I slightly release pressure on the brakes before stopping I can minimise or sometimes eliminate the niggle / judder. Further, it does not happen when I stop (heading downwards) on a hill. Seems like gravity has a part to play...

Yeah, it is very odd that it happens only in normal drive mode.

I guess I'll find out next week.

i have had warped rotors in the past and i found that more aggressive/abrupt braking made the niggle/judder less apparent. maybe you drive more aggressively when in sport mode or on hills?

It's your transmission down shifting from 2nd to 1st gear - watch the RPMs when this happens.

HHmmm.. if it's a transmission problem, could I try the 25 sec-foot-on-gas method to restart the transmission computer? I am also experiencing the gear slip problem..
