Hey guys, I have a question about brakes. I bought my 525i 2004 a month ago and the iDrive said that I needed my brakes replaced. I heard screeching when I applied my brakes but the screeching only happens sometime. I took it to a independent mechanic and they said that the brakes were fine and they've resetted the service on my idrive twice. My question is what could the problem be.
Also I was wondering if you guys could check if these were the steps to reset a service record on the idrive.

1) Turn car on but don't start
2) Hold the button for 5-10 secs on your tachometer/speedometer area
3) Wait for the desired icon to appear such as brakes/air filters/oil
4) Release the button to select
5) Press and hold again to show the reset option
6) Press again to reset

It could be that when the brakes were serviced, they did not replace the brake sensors. These are what give the audible tone (screech) you are hearing. So, your brakes could be fine and yet you will still hear the screech. Also, you will not be able to reset the service reminder in iDrive until the sensors are replaced. There are two, one for the front and another for the rear brakes.

Cool so one problem could be the sensor. I just changed my oil so I wanted to reset the service on that. Do my steps seem correct?

If you want to reset the brake pad from the service menu that's is counting the range (km-miles) your steps are right. But if you got the message saying brake pad's worn go to the nearest bmw service, do the exact same steps u said but the last thing to do turn off the car then turn it on it should have gone, but do it immediately after your last step.
