BFD is supposed to be standard in the UK, but I've never seen the additional stop light come on when following an e60.
Have tried it on mine, car stationary with engine running, stood on the brake pedal with someone watching behind and....nothing, just the usual single light.
Has anyone seen this feature working?

Here is something I found on the web:
Brake Force Display already homologated for the BMW 7 Series in the USA and now also available in the 5 Series reduces the risk of bumper-to-bumper colli?sions when the driver applies the brakes hard by enlarging the brake
light area. Following completion of the homologation process, the system will also be introduced in other countries and then only requires activation of the software already available.
Could be another software issue?

Its an option that has to be enabled by the dealer; cars sold in the UK ( and I suspect the EU ) are disabled because it requires a change in the law to allow for BFD. Type Approval regs don't permit BFD type lights.
The rule changes were/are supposed to be imminent, but neither my wifes' M3 convertible ( 8 weeks old ) nor my 535d ( 4 weeks old ) have BFD enabled. I've tried both with an 'emergency stop' from 30MPH, no BFD.
Dealer won't switch the feature on, he says because of Type Approval.....

I find the threshold too much before the BFD comes on. I mean by the time ABS comes up theres not much time left anyways... I kinda rather it come on when you are like applying a certain amount of pressure instead or how fast the car is decelerating...
