BFD is supposed to be standard in the UK, but I've never seen the additional stop light come on when following an e60.

Have tried it on mine, car stationary with engine running, stood on the brake pedal with someone watching behind and....nothing, just the usual single light.

Has anyone seen this feature working?

Good point, all of the bumpf says it should, even shows a pic in the brochure. Secondary light (inner) comes on under heavy breaking to let following vehicles see how hard your breaking, words to that effect.

Going to look out for it.....

I think it only come on when ABS is triggered. I meant to try this out in the snow this past winter but never got around to it. Maybe I'll have to look for some wet cobblestones and have a friend stand by while I drive past...

I'm sure we haven't got it yet. I followed my own car, with my wife driving, the other day and the brake lights lit as normal.

I also received a slap for saying she had a nice ass. She thought I meant the car!

Thanks Rudy and E60Speed. Clearly I've been driving much too conservatively

As for your comment Merv, well best we don't comment.... (unless of course anyone knows Mrs Derv!)

Gee, Merv, Mrs. Derv should appreciate the appreciation, so to speak. I know my wife loves to hear what a great ass she has!

Problem is, when Mrs. MaxBuck hears this, the "great ass" too often refers to her husband.

BFD will only light up the 2nd stage of the brake lights display upon heavy braking or braking with ABS.

Personally I fail to see how BFD is going to help matters when 99% of other road users will

a) never of heard of it
b) have no idea that the fact that the 2 stages are lit up on means that the car in front is braking heavily!

The humain brain is an animal brain; it reacts to external stimuli using preconditionned actions. It is part of our human routine to slow when we see red ligth. In the 60s, they added additional lights and increased the size of the red light of the traffic lights in order to add more red, the effect being : people have more chance to see it as it cover a bigger vision area. I suppose it is the same thinking with the BFD system. Even if you don't know about the system, if you follow a 5er and suddently more red light appear than usual, you will probably react. Now, i suppose one of the possible reaction can be : this car is a very nice christmas tree!
