The brakes are about the most important thing we have on our cars,
therefore at all services BMW checks the brake system as well as they
do the oil and -filter change.

The brake fluid is a liquid that get worn out by high temps, low temps etc.
It should be changed at least every second year.

And at the same time the pads and disks can the served/changed.

Saving on inspections is not worth it, it cost pennys compared to...

JDN, have you renewed your BMW Assist? I let mine lapse after the first free year. And I also did not have my car notify the dealer. Was just curious if it was the car not notifying BMW/dealer or if it was just my dealer not following up. Guess my question is whether you need BMW Assist to have the functionality of automatic notifications?
I did not renew after the free year, but the car called in when the oil service mileage countdown got close. MY SA said that since it could not call in, my unit would need checking and correcting while in for the brake fluid flushing -- all under warranty.

Thx, I'll have to follow up as to why mine doesn't call in. Let me know what the problem is if they identify one.

The SA planned to replace the Telephone Control Unit. That appeared to be about as involved and potentially problematic as a CIP upgrade or replacement. Since I wanted to use the car extensively next week, I decided to get the brake fluid flush and stop. So, down the road, I will get the TCU replaced if it fails to call in the next oil change. Right now, there are no check control messages.

My 10/13 build date (my own as well my E60's...) gave its brake-flush warning on Halloween.

And, I must say that I found the pedal more responsive after having the fluid changed.

cheers,
