Seems like the details in my profile did not show up!

If you really like having a great sound system in your car, you should consider getting L7 if available in SA. It sure is worth it and best bang for the buck (Compared to upgrading later).
I regret not getting it.

BTW, welcome to the forum, I believe you are the first one that ordered a 530i with the new engine.

If the new I6 engine is going to be available in SA starting March 2005 production build, when will it be offered in the US.? Also, is this only going to apply to the 530 or will it bump up the 525 power as well.? Will a 525 even be offered in the US for 2006 MY?

I think when you look at the specifications of the new 3series you will find your answers. I think also the 525 engine will be a new one, but at a later timeframe. They do not have specified it yet.

There are definitely different release dates for different countries or markets. Eg we don't have the 630ci available here yet, but other countries do. So I can't help you on the US release date.

Re the 2.5 litre engine, take a look at the following link:
http://www.germancarfans.com/news.cfm/news....001/bmw/1.html

Extract:
__________________________________________________ ____________
The 2.5-litre BMW 325i also makes its European debut in early 2005
Its new engine produces 160 kW at 6,500 rpm thanks to VALVETRONIC and double-VANOS technology, with maximum torque of 250 Nm available between 2,750 and 4,250 rpm. The BMW 325i accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.1 seconds with a top speed of 245 km/h. The BMW 325i uses just 8.3 ltr/100 km on the combined EU cycle.
__________________________________________________ ______________

As an example, here in SA, the E39 5 Series range started with 523, 528 and 540 variants. Once the 2.5 and 3.0 M54 engines were used in the E46 3 Series, they soon made their way into the 5's. IMHO, irrespective of where the R6 engine range starts off, I am pretty certain that both the the 2.5 and 3.0 R6 engines will make their way into all E60 markets somewhere over the next 2 years. It's a good way to keep the sales going strong

Welcome aboard, BMW#4 !

DD (ARS) does make the ride more comfortable.
I have it myself and tested other cars without it. It is a big difference, IMHO!?

Thanks Iceman.
Living in Germany, I don't blame you for being calssified an addict. Must be nice living in the homeland of BMW.

Thanks Skaffa. There has been a lot of positive change here since 95.

One of the great things about SA, is the great roads and scenery, especially around the Garden and Wine Routes. Of course all are best viewed from the seat of a BMW!!

I remember that -95 was bad because of constitution vote and elections. Is it more quiet in Pretoria and Natal?

Oh yes - Its a very different country now - very stable, strong economy, and top tourist destination.
