Is there a source for buying the original European warning triangle that fits into the emergency kit on the E60 trunk lid? I know it is not to US spec. but would like it nonetheless. I have not found it on ebay.
You can order it at any BMW dealer's accessories department. I think the part number is: 82111466578 and it will cost you $26. This is the information I got out of the 5-series accessories catalog.

The real deal typically cannot be ordered by a US dealer, I don't even think the part number is in the parts system (unless someone has already gotten a dealer to add it in, a possibility but not likely to do any good). The E60 warning triangle part number is...
71606770096 (although 71606768272 was good until last September, BMW must have changed suppliers)
Anyway the good news is that this triangle is the same as that for the E46 and M Coupe, you just don't use the blue case it comes in since on the E60 sedan the triangle fits in the tool tray. The E46 and M Coupe European specification warning triangle can be found at...

I sourced an actual European specification warning triangle (71606768272 at the time as I recall) and I have compared it to the one in the link above (I used to have an M Coupe and a 330Ci) and other than the blue case you don't need the warning triangle is exactly the same.
This is true for the E61 wagon as well where you can use the same triangle in the above link and the only difference is that the European specification triangle for the wagon comes in a clear case (sourced one of those too) instead of a blue one. Regardless it still fits inside the tailgate storage area.
So instead of going to great lengths to get the real warning triangle from Europe you can leverage this E46 and M Coupe community vendor to get what you're looking for.

Thanks 5 Rakete
I knew I could get the triangle for those other models at various websites but I was not sure it would fit into the tool tray once I took it out of the blue plastic case. That is good to know.

There was a post a long time ago, maybe 1.5 years ago, but there is one at Pep Boys Auto stores that fits in the tool tray. I even used it once when my car got stuck in the snow overnight.

If you cannot find the part #, let me know.
I ED'd a 2007 530i6 last month and took the triangle home with me.
The part number in on the sack.
