How do I get my hands on an actual BMW shop manual for my 545i? Preferably the large book kind.

They usually are not available to the general public until 5-6 years after model introduction. I had to wait a very long time for my e39 manual. You might be able to find a bootleg CD or DVD, but be careful because there are generic "BMW" versions that are virtually useless. I honestly doubt you will find anything useful until the real book is published in 2009 or 2010.
