I know this is an old thread, but it's on topic, so...
I'm wondering where you stand if you replace your seats with some from another car? I did get a letter for this recall for my car, and it's scheduled to go in Sept. 8 for repair. I'm planning to go ahead and have it done, so that if I do replace my seats, these will be good to go...but hate to think that means I might be facing hefty repair bill on the replacement seats down the road.
Anyone had experience with this situation? I do plan to speak to my SA as well and try to get VIN information for the salvage car...but my guess is it's a crap shoot.

If not, would it be possible to wait until you upgrade seats, then do the recall on your car? Can you postpone your Sept. 8 appointment until you get it sorted out? The warranty has been
extended on the seat so you shouldn't be under the gun to do your recall...unless you're getting the air-bag warning right now.
I think out of pocket repair on the seat sensor is $1000-1200! OUCH!

My guess is that BMW will allow one recall per VIN. If you're chummy with your SA maybe they can check for you if the salvage VIN has had the recall. If so then the seat should be good.

Hi all, i took my to the main dealer at Ruxley, they want ?1000 for the recode and reprogramme. they quotated me ?481 for part and 6 hour labour. which come to the ?1000. i have done enough research before i took it in.
1000 squid isnt easy to earn, so took it to the local bmw specalist, they recoded and reprogrammed it for my E61 525d 2005 for under ?200 inc vat. what can you say... i even let them valet my car for an other extra ?17. both party happy. no new part needed. if the stealer ask for ?300. i would have agreed and paid it.. they thinked i am a fool.. but now i had it fixed. who is the fool now???!!

I got the recall notice in the mail a couple of months ago. Took the car in, and they replaced the mat under the passenger seat.

My light came on a few weeks after I bought the car a few months ago. My fat ass brother got in the car and all the lights popped on. A few days later, I took it to the dealer. My car wasn't in the recall. imagine that. So the SA goodwilled it for me and fixed it for free. No hassle, no trouble. Then a few weeks later, calls me to bring my car in for a free full car software update. All is perfect now.
