BMW will send you letter if your car belongs to the recall. The dealership will have the sensor mat replaced at no charge. I had mine done last month.

No idea if the recall will end up affecting Germany cars (I doubt it, they don't care about us the way they [are forced to] care for the American customers).

I guess once a month I'll try to get the seatbelt warning to show up on both driver and passenger seats. I figure that if that's working, then that's proving the seat sensor mat that drives that is probably the same one used for the airbags. I can't imagine them having separate sensor mats for seatbelt alert and for airbag disablement.

Same here, I had my car in for a coolant leak (they replaced the radiator) and they told me about this recall and fixed it as well.

I just found out that my car was part of that recall and I had mine replaced last year and paid for it..... I called BMW and they gave me the campaign # (08V-384) and advised me to contact the dealership for a refund. I did and got me $$$ back. Thanks for the heads up guys!

I bought a 545i last July and got this error message last week. Can I still get it repaired by dealer even though the recall was 2yrs ago? Or how do I find out if this repair was done by the previous owner?

call your local BMW center and speak with any service advisor. It's kinda hit or miss. The stupid thing about it is that even though your car should be covered under any and all circumstances due to the obvious specifications of your car, BMW has "identified" particular vin numbers created within the years of the mat sensor production. I think it's all BS so that they cover their ass at the most minimal level, but what do I know. So even though your car theoretically qualifies they will still find a way to screw you over. Hopefully, in your case your VIN number is in fact one that is on the list.

If it is on the list than you are good to go. Paying out of pocket for a new matt sensor will cost about 2k. GL man

I found out about my air bag sensor the hard way! I had a car accident about 2 weeks ago and my driver's air bag popped out really well! No problem with the sensor! Now just waiting for my car to be fixed!

Obviously guys! They are not going to extend the entire warranty because of a specific airbag recall!!
