I agree. Its kind of annoying. It would be nice to have Lexus reliability and quality ( assuming its as good as you say it is. I never owned one) But I like BMW styling and driving feel more. Life's full of compromises we gotta pick and choose. If BMW had both it would be awesome. Meanwhile all we can do is be more careful I guess
Exactly. You have to sacrifice something in order to have the ultimate driving machine.

On the other hand, they don't build 'em like they used to...

I hear lot of different opinions...

But I am with TV550.

I went to dealer to see how much my car worth

I bought it for $50K in may 04

they are offering me a $29K

I thought bmw 5 series has good resale value.

They said when it comes to luxery sedan, I will lose money when I am selling it?

I dont know if they just making things up or something...

I've had my 5 for 18 months with 20k on it and I have not experienced any of the unfortunate problems you have had. Sorry to hear about them. Have you discussed these problems with your dealer. It is possible they may be able to do something for you.
yes, I did.
They are kind enough to replace the parts for me.

I'm thinking it must be the hot and humid climate here in Manila. Or maybe this is evident in all early 04 models.
It is quite possible that it's an '04 issue. I am experiencing it a bit on the trailing edge of my 2004 X3's center console. Have not had it on any of my other BMWs, including a (now sold) 2005 545i.

Today, I had flat tire warning came on middle of high way made me frustrating and it was fault alert. I am really sick of this car..
I might get new car if things are keep happening..
I think I will go with GS430 or M45 or even RL (sporty) as my next car.
What are some opinion for the cars that I listed?

Well......

That's not really fair. The soft cushiony surfaces weren't something they bothered with back then. Buyers got hard plastic. I'd take that, so perhaps I too lament the fact that they don't make them like they used to, but really - the coating was meant to be an advancement.

We expected a lot less from cars back "then" too. Been in a really old car recently?

Spot on.... I just drove 1998 VW polo. Aside from having to remember to change gear myself - OMG - are other cars really like this? Was really glad to get back in my e60

I think this is a psychological thing. For those who are interested - check this out:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow's_hierarchy_of_needs

It's only when the big stuff is right (like in the e60) that we can start to worry about the little things. It's part of the human condition to find SOMETHING to be dissatisfied about - it's what made us stop hunting animals with spears and living in caves.

My E60 is 2 years old exactly and I have had to have to torque converter and transmission replaced already. The mileage is 50Kmiles. It has been in with the main dealer for 2 out of the last 12 months. Has anybody had the back end of their car shaking from side to side, if so, it might be the auto box?

Hate to pass the buck but BMW doesn't build the transmissions. The Auto slush boxes have been historically less reliable than the manual transmissions. And you may find the same auto transmission in other vehicles so the problem (if wide spread) is not isolated to BMW.
