Don't forget guys that we had some excellent work from Znod and Grogan545 who both got incredible 0-60 times out of their stock 545s. With a lot of practice, and much trial and error, both made the 0-60 runs in less than 5 seconds. Grogan, if I recall correctly, also had corroboration on the drag strip. Point being that the published specs for both cars, 535 and 545, are conservative, but out of the box and from a dig the 545 always put our much better numbers than the specs alone would have you believe. No doubt at all that a modified 535 will be quicker than a stock 545. As a side note, I don't think I've ever seen a 550 owner match the best results that Znod and Grogan achieved with their 545s.
I agree with you 100%.
One thing that got me though, it seems that when magazine people tested 545i and 550i,
best 545i managed was around 5.4 to 60 and about 13.7 for 1/4 while 550 had
4.9(i think from Motor Trend) to 60 with 13.2 for 1/4.
But when e60 members tested extensively, 545i could easily match the 550i time.

Is that mean that 545i is just harder car to launch compare to 550i?
E60 member shed 1/2 second to 60 which should translate to about 1/2 quicker to 1/4 mile.
Magazine people usually give a 4-5 runs and pick the best one.

i havent read that post, what where they using to measure their times? if it was a G-force or something like that, it doesnt mean a whole lot to me.

Craig, Grogan did use a G-Timer, but also validated his results at the strip where his G-Timer matched the slip. If you get a minute it's worth taking a look at posts from Znod and Grogan, I think there were links to their 0-60 threads in their signatures. They put a lot of effort into getting reliable results and their experiences make for very interesting reading.

time to cite sources...

535 times are from EDMUNDS Click

545 times are from Car & Driver Click

Car and Driver adjusts their test results with a fudge factor to allegedly account for variations in temperature, humidity, altitude and barometric pressure. Comparing C&D results to others is not apples to apples. IIRC MT does the same.

Interestingly Edmunds tested a 545i in 2004:

Track testing yielded a 5.6-second 0-to-60-mph time, which makes the 545i a touch faster than the E500, which we've timed at 5.8 seconds.

I think it's just that no-one at the magazines was able put the same level of effort into learning how best to launch the 545 as Znod and Grogan were able to (although if I remember right one magazine did get a 5.2 for the 545). Both guys found that their results gradually (and significantly) improved over time as they learned how to make the most of the 545. Their threads made for some of the best reading here on the forum. They put a lot of effort into adjusting their results to take account of temperature, altitude and barometric pressure, but they always posted the raw results too. From my own limited experience I found the 545 to be just as quick as my 550 despite the on-paper loss of 35hp. The 545 just seemed to me to make more of the available bhp and torque that the 550.
