I received and had to sign for "Stolen Vehicle Recovery Service Certificate" provided to allow BMW to use my Assist Password to track and recover. I am required to file a Police Report and provide BMW a Report File Number to allow BMW to activate the recovery action. The Certificate is provided to prove to insurance company should they provide discounts. In my case State Farm provided no more discount that what I already had for all the other BMW security features.
BMW uses ATX, a service provider, to provide mobile monitoring and support services using an imbeddedtelematics device which receives GPS signals and communicates with the response center via wireless and landline networks. Lots of legal jargon over the intended use and limits to its use.
Does anyone know if the Stolen Vehicle Recovery Service can be retrofitted to 2004 E60 models?
Can't say for certain, but March '05 ROUNDEL indicates that BMW Assist with Integrated Bluetooth Availability can be retofited into 3/04 builds and later '04s. It is the Assist that enables the ability to have SVR. So by logic it would seem that it could be implemented. The retrofit is supposed to be at owners expense as Bluetooth was not a "promised feature" back then.
