In your case, I think buying the $1,700 Extended Maintenance Plan is definitely worth every penny.

Your car is 2008 and you've already drove 43K miles. With your mileage, you will have your Service 1 and 2, brakes and rotors for front (2 times) and back axles, atleast 5 oil changes, and little things (like gaskets, filters, pumps, bulbs, wipers) covered before the 6 yrs or 100K miles mark. But it's your call.

If you have the tools and are handy it should cost you half that to do it yourself with factory parts.
Real OEM

Front rotors 114x2= 228
Rear rotors 97x2= 194
Front pads 131
Rear pads 112
----------------------------
$665 + wear sensors

You can definitely get everything cheaper if you shop around (gary at newport, bma parts, pelican parts,....)
I use my private mechanic and he charged me $565 AUD for all 4 brake pads including sensors & fluid (genuine, 545i).
Then you will need to reset your front/rear brake warning message and maybe the brake fluid warning aswell.

Dealerships too much money for these type of things, I was quoted $1200 AUD...

I did not think the maint Contract covers the idrive anyway?

no i mean the idrive service indicators

it covers everything in there, so if you need spark plugs, oil, filter etc it may be decent for you
