Here in the UK it currently costs ?120 a year and after paying for the last 2 years I have decided not to renew based purely on my low annual mileage. If my mileage increased then I would renew.Bearing in mind that a well maintained car is unlikely to break down and leave you stranded, no one can foresee accidents. In an accident situation I think that BMW Assist would be worth the premium. At the end of the day it's a personal view of risk insurance.

It depends. If you already have a cellphone and roadside assistance through your insurance company, then you pretty much have what the Safety Plan covers.

All valid points except for something that happened to me. I got 3 flat tires at once from a monster pothole. Since I have wheel/tire insurance, it made sense for me to have the car flatbedded to my dealership which was about 40 miles away. With BMW Assist, they will tow you up to 50 miles even if the dealership you need isn't the closest to you. With AAA, only 25 miles would have been covered.

probably varies per state.. but I just upgraded to AAA Plus which is $89/year and offers 100 miles towed.. the AAA Classic I previously had was $54/year and only 5 free towed miles..

I don't think this has anything to do with BMW Assist. BMW Assist is merely (or not just merely, I should say) a telematics service.

This is akin to purchasing insurance - you would hope you never need to use some of the features, such as ACN or SVN. If having ACN is a question of peace of mind (it is for me, actually, although I hope I don't need it), then you renew.

A case that we haven't mentioned....

If you are in a serious accident, does BMW Assist automatically call for help? I'm thinking of the recent GM adverts in the USA, where a guy hits a tree and his OnStar calls for the police. If it did, that might push me toward renewing the Asssist program. Otherwise, cell phone plus AAA or insurance is enough....

Actually, my post (immediately above yours) does indeed mention this.
