I am going to be purchasing a 2004 BMW 525i E60 and the dealer is telling me that the alarm that sirens and interior motion detector is optional. Is this true?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

yes that is true, but why do you need an annoying siren anyway? the car cannot be stolen unless it is flatbedded or its an inside job... just get LoJack

I didn't realize it was optional. The alarm is a neat feature, IMO.

It is a standard feature as far as I know. According to BMWUSA website it is standard on 2005 525 and according to my 2004 5 series owners manual, it is not footnoted as an optional feature. I think it is standard and as usual, Jason has run into a salesperson who is not fully informed about the car. Or worse, is trying to charge something extra for a feature that is standard...

Should note I'm talking about U.S. or North American spec cars. Jason doesn't give his location, but I assumed he was N.A.

As far as I know it's not an option on E60. I have MY04 525i and fully functional (motion and tilt sensors) alarm came with it. May be it's part of some package? I only have premium package. My friend has 2003 330Ci and alarm was optional on his car.

I don't think it's Premium Package issue, all E60's come with the alarm.

I think it's a country specific thing. Do we know where the original poster is from?

Edmunds.com shows the alarm as a standard feature for the 525i in the US.

The BMWUSA website shows the alarm as standard as well (in case Edmunds got it wrong...)

http://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/5/525iSedan/features.htm

I think this is still related to location. We need to know where jayman098ma is from...
