Hi guys, I have a BMW 545i 2004 M sport and the car has 50000km on the odometer. The car gives the ACTIVE STEERING FAULT after driving for some time and mostly on a rough road. If you turn off the car and restart it the fault goes away and the same process happens again. I got it checked from the dealership here in Pakistan today and 2 faults came up regarding the active steering( Picture attached regarding the Servomotor). The mechanic said that you have a faulty thermostat and the car might be running a little too hot(40c plus nowadays)and the active steering motor is overheating due to that. I accessed the hidden computer for the coolant temp on the way back and it shoes 80-90c which means the thermostat is stuck in the open position and doesn't make sense for the Active steering fault.
When I bought the car I got alignment done from a local shop and the steering is at a slight angle when the car is going straight. Could a bad alignment be a reason for the AS fault? and does the alignment need to be done by attaching a computer for it to work properly?
I would appreciate your insight on this. Thank-you in advance.
