bmw 525I 2006
Hi,
I have a engine light on and the code for that is P0015. I have 115,234 miles.
The mechanic is saying to change the whole chain drive and gears which would cost around 3500$.
Can anybody help me with this ?
Do we really need to replace chain ?
Thanks
Vipul

Usually P0015 is to do with the camshaft position/timing being retarded (late).
It can be the following things:
- Vanos seals (search for Beisan VANOS seals kit)
- Camshaft Intake Position sensor.
- Vanos solenoid.
Start with the cheapest and work your way and check if it solves this intermittent problem.

I wouldn't put that money into it just yet. At 115k it will not be the chain. He's quoting you that because it's something that cost less and will fix it and charge you for the timing fix. My friend had the same issue. I replaced the solenoids and it was fixed. It is a cheap repair and you can do it yourself in 15 mins max
