I keep track of the numbers in an excel sheet for the most recent 7 years. It's posted in the information section on the main site, a direct link is here:
http://www.e60.net/information/5_Series_Sales_US.pdf
There's a pretty graph with lots of lines and then the data table on the second page.
Granted I need to update it more often.. haven't since March. I'll do that now so when you see it, it'll be updated.

Fred, as always, thanks for posting your monthly figures.
One thing you might want to do to encourage people to use (or just notice) the bookmarks is to change the document properties in Acrobat so that when the document is opened, the bookmarks are displayed automatically.
No matter what you prefer, the document looks great! Thanks again!!

I wonder when they count the sale. I paid for my 550 in September - but I have not taken delivery of the car yet.
So they probably count the sale in the month of payment, not delivery.

[/quote]I seem to remember that in an earlier thread it was determined that the sale isn't counted until the customer takes delivery...is that right Fred?

These numbers show that the E60 is now the best selling 5 series ever (in the US).
If you add up yearly sales from October through September, the E60 sold 49,228 units in the last 12 months. At its peak (Oct 2002 - Sep 2003), the E39 sold 45,133.
This is in contrast to the 7 series, where the new E65 has never sold as many units as the peak year (2001?) for the E38 (in the US).
This biggest single month 5 series US sales record still belongs to the E39 (5,313). But I'm betting that the E60 will beat that number yet this year.

here in singapore the sole bmw dealer inched out mercedes benz for most number of cars sold so far this year. pple are perhaps getting used to the bangled designs. and i have to admit he's quite brilliant - didn't bungle the design in the long run. our cars would still look great 5-6 years on - unlike an already aged looking w211 e class

I've been seeing a lot of more e60s on the road in the SF bay area over the last two months... seems like there a big buying wave as the new 530 engine came out.

Sales are counted when the sales manager "punches" the RDR (Retail Delivery Report) on his computer to tell BMW NA that a unit in the dealer's inventory has been leased or sold.
The sales manager obviously wants to record before the end of each month so that it is counted in that month. Remember that the more cars the dealer sells the more they will get from BMW NA.
Hope this answers the question.
