September sales of the 5 Series were up only 15.8% from September, 2004. YTD sales for the first 9 months of 2005 were also up 11.2% from the comparable 9 months of 2004.
By comparison, September sales of the Mercedes-Benz E Class were down 2.4% with sales of 4,544 units this month and 4,655 units last September. Sales of the MB E Class were down 14.4% for the first 9 months of 2005.
Please note that I report only United States sales data.

thanks Fred, ... I think it would also be useful to include month to month comparisons to see the current market sentiment, as in this case, there is a decline in E60 sales when we look at Sept vs August....and the numbers actually say that there were more E-class sold than 5series

Tell me how to add the month to month numbers to the charts and I will be happy to give it a whirl. My thought is that it would make the charts too busy as they are almost at that point now.
Historically, the manufacturers only look at year to year comparisions but I do understand the interest in monthly trends.

[/quote]Month on month comparison may not be that useful if there is seasonality. It may be that Sept sales is always below Aug sales every year. We need to know the seasonality as well.

I have to ask. Are you using the bookmark feature to view previous month's sales figures?
It's real easy for anyone who wants to check to see whether the current month's sales are up or down from the previous month.

I keep track of the numbers in an excel sheet for the most recent 7 years. It's posted in the information section on the main site, a direct link is here:
http://www.e60.net/information/5_Series_Sales_US.pdf
There's a pretty graph with lots of lines and then the data table on the second page.
Granted I need to update it more often.. haven't since March. I'll do that now so when you see it, it'll be updated.
