1. Navigation - $1900 worth of software
2. Night Vision
3. Active Cruise Control
4. HUD
5. CA
If you have once driven a car with ACC and HUD you wouldn't want to miss it in your next.

I will partially agree with this list but I'll add that I wouldn't buy another car without NAV or CA. NAV for it's price should include HUD as it makes the NAV vastly superior. So CA/NAV/HUD are only ripoffs because of price not because of usability.

ACC is almost useless in the Metro DC area especially for a manual transmission. Even in my wifes people mover that ACC is useless on road trips up and down I-95 where we've traveled between NC and CT.

although i think comfort access is necessary, i doubt it costs BMW half of what people are paying for it...

IMHO, the trophie goes to "Anthracite headliner",
as the car should come with a headliner with similar color, (black on black inter, gray, on gray interior, and so on)
so paying just to have the car with a decent (acceptable) color is a ripoff...

None of the options are a rip off ... because you don't _have_ to buy any of them. Anything is worth what you are willing to pay for it. Yes they are _expensive_ but then when you buy a BMW, what do you expect!

A rip off is defined as when "a person pays too much for something" - but that's all relative. Do i think the Satnav option in a BMW is expensive? Yes. Do I think the functionality in a ?300 tom tom is better? Yes. Do I think the integration of the BMW Satnav with the HUD outweighs the negatives? Yes!

There are many options that are expensive, but none of them are mandatory, and nobody forces you to tick the boxes on the options list.

most if not all the options are overpriced - thats how they make money. My basic car cost ?24k, i could easily have added 20% to the cost just by adding media pack and leather. It depends on where your pain threshold is!

Talking

#1 CA - A friend has it on hid 330 coupe. Had a good laugh watching him try to get into the trunk. Resorted to shouting "Open Sessame" at one point until it decided to work.

#2 ACC - More of a Lincoln Towncar option. Not very "Ultimate Driving MAchine" is it?

a new 530i costs about over $65000 here and there are some cars that are half as that that come with it..
so i think its unfair to make the customer pay more when your already paying so much more,,,

btw... it should already be standard in new (06 +) cars, as they dont seem to be addin alot of hardware anyway...
