People were buying '07 in April of '06. Since when does the calendar year have anything to do with the MY?
Since you're not living in the US.

Sorry I was talking about the situation in Europe (the topic starter doesn't have his location in his profile).

I was talking about ordering a new 5-series with my dealer last week, he said that 2008 is out i Sept (makes more sense to me). So my w10 build will be 07.

Actually, if you want to keep car long enough, '07 might be better. For one thing, engine and electronics have been around for some time so most issues have been ironed out. Appearance is not changing much in '08, so untrained eye won't even notice the difference. If you don't like turbo engine, '07 530 is more powerful that '08 528i so you'll enjoy it more. I kept my '97 M3 for 7 years and couldn't care less about resale value - I enjoyed the car.

Long ownership is about enjoyment, not about resale value. So if you plan to change cars in 3-4 years, then lease. If not, you can as well get '07 unless you really want 535i or some of the new features like USB or new shifter. '08 also makes more sense if you want to be the first guy in the block.
I understand what you are saying, I just think that the '08 is the way to go if you are buying. The MSRP won't be much higher and the option prices should be the same. That being said, you get a bigger engine (the 528 will now be pretty close to the old 530 engine in terms of horsepower) and the 08 528 will be less money than an 07 530. The 528 and 535 engines are new, but have been tested in the 328 and 335, and a client of mine who is a cert. BMW mechanic says the 328 (which is more prevalent) has been trouble free "so far" (it's only been a few months). Remember, the 5 engines were overhauled recently too, so those engines are relatively new too. Of course, the exterior is virtually identical, but I think the inside is improved nicely. The driver door handle, lack of storage, and lack of refinement on the inside (all the things that bothered me when I get a 5 as a loaner) have been addressed and improved, as well as some visual changes inside and some convenience to i-drive. Don't get me wrong, I love the E60 as it is and was all set to buy one in November (until I stumbled on this post and finally joined once the news of the LCI broke in January), but to me if you are purchasing, and can still get a great deal, get the '08. You can't lose either way, I just think if you are purchasing, the '08 is the way to go.
