Just got the Autumn 2004 edition of the BMW Magazine from BMW UK directly. Most BMW owners in the UK get them.

Anyway just noticed a major mistake on page 10 about the 535d SE engine. The magazine says that its a twin-turbo 3.5 litre engine when its actually still the 3.0 litre engine found in the 530d SE but with twin-turbos. This can be seen in various websites (including BMW website), magazines etc. I'm surprised they've made such a big mistake.

Well thought I share this with you all.

Question

I noticed that one and thought about writing to them, but thought someone cleverer would have picked it up already, Obviously NOT. i think some one was when the new engine thread was posted on the forums.

Whoops, looks like we made the same error:

http://e60.net/gallery/engines/
http://www.bmw.com/generic/com/en/products...sheet_535d.html

So the 530d has a 3.0L 6-cyl diesel, while the 535d is a 3.0L 6-cyl diesel twin turbo?

You know the funny thing? Being in the US, we kept hearing all these rumors about how BMW was going to roll out a twin turbo 3.0L in E60. People kept dismissing the rumors, and then when E60 shipped and no such engine materialized, I figured it was all nothing more than rumors. People talked about how BMW would *never* roll out a twin turbo alongside the 545 in the US, etc etc. I'm embarrassed to admit that while I was aware of the several different engine options outside the US, I just assumed that the 535d was simply a 3.5L diesel, and didn't even realize that was the 3.0L twin turbo people had been talking about all along! (Albeit in the form of a non-US diesel )

Hmmm.... is that a fact? Fixed now

So I guess this is indeed that infamous twin-turbo engine ... cool. The rumour mill was correct albeit in diesel form.

I believe the 530d 3.0 litre 6-cyl diesel has a single turbo.
Anyone want to confirm this?

You are correct. The 530d engine is fitted with a single turbocharger.

I guess Das or Lomag will need to make the amendments to the 530d engine details in the engine gallery again to add single turbo.
