Had the recall work performed at Century West BMW yesterday. The hose clamp, brake booster seal, brake servo unit, brake master cylinder, vacuum pipe, and brake fluid were replaced under the recall, as oil was discovered in the lines.

Hose and clamp only replaced, N/C. On the other hand, I asked them to reset my service indicator (.5 hour) and replace my serpentine belt (part supplied by me). They quoted .5 hour for the latter but charged me 1.0 without explanation. By my reckoning they also reset my next service about 6000 km too far off. From here on I make sure I reset it before it goes into the negative.....

The dealer replaced my vacuum line, booster and master cylinder at no cost. They said I was only the second car they have had to do the booster and master cylinder for but I am happy it was free!.

They replaced my vac line and check valve. Pump and master cyl checked out fine....freebie!

Bonus is no more hard brake pedal at start-up, which the dealer told me a couple of years ago was normal

7 months later - Vacuum pump replaced at NO COST.
There's more to the story as the car has been at dealer for 5 weeks now. (See previous post)
So, they are replacing at their cost (SA said something about getting it paid under the recall) due to my inconvenience

Other than oil leaks, what other symptoms show that the vaccum pump is bad and needs to be replaced? I am thinking of just replacing the o-ring - 11667509080 as I am showing signs of an oil leak.

theres not a whole lot to the pump. there's a rotor inside which creates vacuum for your brakes. but that usually doesnt fail.

a bad pump would = hard brakes, no assist
they just leak for the most part.
