I'm taking delivery of some brand new rims and want to treat them with something to protect them against brake dust pitting. What do you guys use? Also, how often do you treat them? Will just frequent washing be enough?

My son gave me something called Eagle One Keep Clean Wheel spray for Christmas last year that I used on my current rims, but I'm not impressed, so I'm looking for some other recommendations.

a think coat of wheel wax will help prevent brake dust from build up. I also got good result from those Armor All wheel protectant on my old 124.

Best way to avoid brake dust is not to use your brakes. Since that's a bit impractical, I start with a good wax job and frequent washing with car soap. I had some luck with the Eagle One stuff but it didn't prevent the brake dust from sticking just made it easier to wash off. I'd avoid regular use of harsh wheel cleaners - they will strip away any wax or protective coating on the wheel finish. But if your wheels get really crapped up just don't let the harsh cleaners sit on the finish too long.

Two other choices; change the brake pads to ones that have very little dust or get pad covers. I've seen the pad covers on Bavarian Autosport. Of course brake pads would be an extreme change unless they're needed.

Frequent wheel washing, some sort of wax on the wheels and perhaps different brake pads.
