Follow up to the BST. I had All German Auto read the codes and perform a reset. So far the fault has not come back. I am now convinced that this was a bad connection at the trunk terminal and was corrected during the recall. Brecht BMW should have reset this but wanted to charge me $500 to do this.

I bet it was probably dirty connections causing a higher resistance.

Had the same air bag light and error and found this post. Changed the BST cable, cleared the code, and all is well. Removed the rear seat to get the the trim/floor panels better.

Thanks to all who posted here. I love this forum....

How did you replace the BST cable? DIY or dealer? How much did you spend on that replacement? Thanks! I've been told this could be a 5-hour work.

I did it myself in about 1 hour 30 minutes. It was very easy. Used the TIS in this thread and removed rear seat. Hardest part was getting the seat back back in. Had trouble getting the 2 lower srews snugged up. I used INPA to reset the code. The cable was $218 plus shipping from one of our friends on this forum.

I am having the same problem in a 2000 M Roadster, I am sure it is the BST. Can't find the specific part for it. ANyone have any experience on M Roadster, Coupe or Z3? Can I use the same cable from a 3- or 5-series?
