Remove the negative side of the battery first. Disconnect old SBK. Install new SBK. Re-attach negative side.

Isn't there a squib that also fires cutting (or sealing) the fuel line?

guys, please install an OEM battery. If ur in california, have nomis_nehc register your battery afterwards. Spend the extra $50-$100 if necessary so you do not have problems. And if you need the battery safety terminal, get it replaced. It's there for a reason and might as well make everything look nice. It is a BMW at the end. No hack jobs allowed!

This issue has NOTHING to do with a non OEM battery. Please stop re-posting rhetoric. Just stop.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO USE AN OEM BATTERY. YOU DO NOT NEED TO REGISTER THE BATTERY.

The BST delete works fine.

Some people will never get it.................and continue to have electrical problems because they had Bubba change the battery.

In those cases its a failing voltage regulator on the alternator.

I've been using a non-OEM battery for a year and haven't had a single issue.
Everything I have read in the repair manual, charging diagrams, and theory of operation show nothing OEM specific.

All the registration does is clear the 'learned' charging pattern. If you don't reset it, the charging circuit will re-map the charge rate slowly. The work around for that is to remove the IBS sensor for a few trips.
