On and off for around a year, I get a 'increased battery discharge' message on the idrive, and have to reset clock mpg etc. sometimes it'll happen after a long drive which is unusual, sometimes it'll happen if the car hasn't been driven for a day or two, sometimes it won't happen for a month or two.
last weekend, the morning after a 100 mile drive, the battery was totally dead. so i put it on a charger and everything has been fine ever since. does anyone know if this is a common problem. i would have thought if it was as simple as a dud battery it would be doing it all the time, it does it so randomly it makes me think it might be something else......

If it is the original battery, I guess that's it and nothing more. If the battery has been changed at some point and is newer than -06, there might be a problem in IBS (intelligent battery sensor). Also, you could check the main power cable where it goes through the floor to the bottom of the car (near the battery). There's a recall for a problem where the main cable covering has been brittled and causing electric problems.

I had a similar problem as well. Replaced the battery six months ago and no problems since.
