What about maintenance?
...The battery on our '07 M61 was replaced under warranty by the dealer @ 18,000 mi. (and 15 months) because the battery was diagnosed as having a bad cell.

I'm not sure, but I thought my cigarrette lighter sockets were switched 12 volts. If that is the case, unless there was a failure of a electronic component, relay or switch the battery shouldn't see a load and be drained when the car is off. If that's the case then you might be able to get the failed component and battery replaced under warranty. I had the dealer replace two batteries under warranty. Batteries are not designed to do complete discharge and recharge cycles. Everytime that happens the battery is stressed and possibly degraded wrt available cold cranking amps. If there was a failed component that did not switch off the 12V to your lighter and as a result drained your battery, it could have permanently damaged your battery. Just a thought, based on the assumption that the lighter socket is switched. Good luck.

I thought it was bumper to bumper for four years on a new car? Why would batteries be excluded?

EDIT: Nevermind. I just read down (or up depending on how you look at it).
