Default Battery drain

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone will be able to help please.

You have an e60 54”. Never had any issue before with the battery until about a month ago. After not using the car and heavy rain, the car wouldn’t start. Also water has seeped through the back driver passenger side( quite a lot of water). I’ve sorted the window seal out and no more water came.

However, I’ve suspected the car not starting to be a battery issue but it’s not. I had 3 new batteries in, which will charge when driving but after 1 day alarm will go off and battery has died. Car will also go sleep after 15 mins.

We’ve checked the car for paralistic draw but none detected. After researching I’ve came across the IBS which could have been damaged as initially there was a tiny bit of water in the trunk next to the battery.

Before I change the IBS could someone advise please. Thank you

Reference Is My Battery Bad? - 5Series.net - Forums.

It would take away a lot of guesswork if you could read the DTC codes and also the battery charge histogram.

Thank you for your reply. I didn’t do it myself but called someone in to do it as I don’t know much about electrics.

checked alternator , works fine.
checked battery, fine
check alternator charging and fine

To find to paralistic draw we had to take every fuse out to see why car wasn’t going to sleep which it still was not doing but putting all fuse back suddenly the car would go to sleep after 15 mins.

it lasted only for 4 days though as there is still a draw even after car is locked and car goes into sleep.

if it it’s a faulty IBS( which I read is very coming for paralistic draw), what are the symptoms please?

thank you for your reply

IBS would not cause a parasitic draw per se, but what it does is not charge the battery properly when its faulty, which can also damage the battery, even a new one. Mine was the IBS, but I prefer reading the DTC codes versus throwing parts at the problem. If you want to take a gamble, that's entirely up to you.

Thank you for your help. I am unable to check battery voltage etc as I don’t have the necessary equipment or get all the codes.

could you tell me please what were your symptoms of defective IBS?

Please see what I’ve read below.

thank you

This is what I read among many other post!

Mine would occasionally display battery discharged notifications on the iDrive. My car was sleeping though. Try not to get confused with battery drained. If there is insufficient charge, it will misinterpret that as a drain when it's not.

Thank you.

Mine just doesn’t say anything about low battery. And it will also go to sleep. So no warning lights and go sleep but will dies. If the IBS was working properly it will at least warn me of low battery , no?

Your battery may be kneeing faster than the notification threshold. Is it a new battery? Did you register it?

This is the 3rd new battery after fighting with supplier accusing them of selling me dodgy batteries. It turns out it’s not the battery the issue but something draining it.

I also thought it wasn't my battery after getting so many new ones. The battery was part of the problem. You need to test the battery. I provided instructions in my link. You need to at least measure the voltage. Did you even try to disconnect the IBS?
