Question

I have a silly thought ... After production, are BMWs shipped to distribution centers with their batteries installed? When I visited the Jersey City center last year I didn't notice.

If that's the case, the shipping and prep center probably gets the cars with near "0" miles and them not being driven ... for 10+ days.
  • Are the batteries expected to start the cars at that point ? ? ?
  • Or, because of the unfavorable driving condition should purchasers of NEW BMW's have to pay for a replacement battery ? ? ?

I know it sounds a little silly but so does a BMW dealer expecting an owner of a 2008 high-end BMW to expect a battery failure on his/her dime because the car is driven "only" 5-7K miles a year!

i think most porsche or corvette owners drive less than 7500 miles per year, i am wondering if their warranty cover their battery or not

battery dead and I'm out 600 bucks.

Dayam , for the last month my battery has been some what low on power. I would drive the car twice a week but during the start up's it would crank over half the time. I had a little portable jump box in the trunk. Hoping the battery would regain charge by driving it on the freeway some what hard , it still was pretty much dead. Every time I attempted to start it testing it's 50/50 probability of it turning over , my starter was taking a lot of abuse. All those times of trying to crank it over a few try's before attaching the portable jump box it finally took a shit on me.

I never knew about the issues with bmw and the battery dilema . If I would have searched this topic months ago and purchased a battery tender as mentioned in several topics , I could have avoided this problem.

two hours of labor + the starter = owned on not knowing

See this is where BMW fails with only one battery. Whereas Mercs have two starter and electrical items. I really think BMW need to rethink how they route the car redundant needs.

Merc's the same way too I left my CLS parked for the winter in storage went there once a month to try to start it and it wouldnt start. I ended up leaving it till winter was done.
