Battery cable, battery, new MPM module
#1
This is my first post and I have enjoyed alot of the information on this site for quite some time, it has been very helpful. Thanks to everyone who participates. So here we go,
I have a 2004 530i that I bought in 2006.
I have been getting several alarms lately, it started with the "Transmission failsafe" that would come in once in a while. I would do the thirty second reset thing and be fine. Now it is staying in and now I have a "Driver restraint system failure" alarm.
I took the car to BMW of Bloomfield in NJ & they say its due to under voltage, so this is what they quoted me for parts & labor:
MPM module
+Battery cable replacement
+Battery replacement

$1630
Then during the vehicle check, they found my rear caliper was leaking brake fluid AND I needed new brake pads and ROTORS all the way around!!!!!!!!! Cost, 750 for the caliper + 1400 for pads and rotors, a WHOPPING $2150.
I just had my brakes done in the summer of 2009, and I DO NOT drive like a lunatic. Guess who did the brakes... BMW of Bloomfield, a mere 20,000 miles ago.
So now, it looks like I'm in the hole for at least $3780 not counting some other small items I wanted to get fixed. I think I'm going to pull my car out of the dealership and take it to a private mechanic specializing in BMW's.
I have a feeling that some of the repairs aren't necessary, yet, and I could find myself shelling out even more. Thoughts, am I being fleeced or what?
