After struggling with this myself, someone posted the instructions that work:
http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=...l=stupidly&st=0
Enjoy!
Finally made an mp3 cd, does not work. The dealer called to follow up on my service yesterday I told them the mp3 funtion is not working from the single slot cd. They say it will only work in the dvd/nav slot. I gave them the SIB 653005 number, they say it is not a correct SIB number, that it is short some digits.
Does anybody living in the NY, NJ area have mp3 enabled and have a 545 with nav, logic 7 and the cd changer? Does the mp3 play in the single cd slot in the dash (not the dvd slot)? What dealer did you use?

Go to Circle BMW (they should do it without much question) or JMK BMW (they might resist doing it).
Thanks Lomag. By the way where did you get the Nero sowftware?

I spoke to a good mechanic today out of the dealership so I got an honest reply to my question....
one really needs to get the latest CIP even just for an AUX coding or CD changer coding or whatever.
and here it comes: NOT BECAUSE OF TECHNICALITIES OR THE CAR ITSELF. But because: it is a BMW Munchen policy now.
All the dealers are now receving diagnostics and CIP uploading software for the dealers computers with the new feature that checks the CIP version in the car first and then if not the latest it will require the latest CIP to be uploaded to the car prior to anything software related can be done. he also said something about all the new system being 24/7 online with Munchen so every car's software update is somehow reported to Munchen via the dealer.
So I just hope some aftermarket companies will come up with software and cables so one could code the car iteself. There are many now for the VW group but nothing for the new BMW
