I hit mine 3 times to open it. I am going to read the manual as it should not be this hard, be right back.

OK I'm back. The manual says just press the trunk button once and it will open. Thats nice. Also here in the US if you hold the trunk button for more than two seconds you will activate the panic alarm.

Just before the trunk opens on my ride, there's a short buzzing noise. I hold my key switch down for about a one thousand one count.

Aww, you got me all excited. I thought this post was about a trunk opening all on its own, just like ours. Oh well.

The trunk release on the E60 does have to be learned, I set my panic alarm off before I figured it out, my complaint is the way the trunk flys up, this could be dangerous. Does anyone else wish there was something to grab to close the trunk other than the top of trunk deck itself?

Yes, do a search about it.
My statement wasn't about "learning" the trunk. Our trunk will open in themiddle of the night with both keys on a table.

Jochet,
There are hand holds for your fingers inside the trunk lid. I always use them to close the trunk.

i don't have any problem to open the trunk with the button on the key but i'm still having a hard time to close it with the hand holds inside the trunk lid . i drove another e60 loaner before but the trunk lid was way easier/lighter to close but mine is harder & feel like it's heavier . i asked my dealer to adjust it but needless to say, same speech, "it's normal."
