Ok guys I have an auto 530i and I only use D and DS but am to afraid to use M, because I don't know how to use it. It starts off with M2 when do I switch to M3, M4 so on when the engine revs pass the red? thanks. Help I want to learn to be a speed demon.

Don't worry about when you should shift from M1 to M2 to M3, etc... The car will upshift for you before you redline. So, go ahead and start using the Manual mode.

when you are in D and DS notice and remember where the car shifts... The harder you are on the gas the higher the car revs before it shifts... so apply the same idea when you're driving in M mode. If you're driving leisurely you can shift at about the same point where the car would normally shift automatically at around 2500 to 3000 rpms... and if you want to go fast then shift at 5000 ish and if you want to get a ticket mash the pedal as hard as you can and shift at redline... but too bad... your auto box will shift for you once it reaches redline so it really takes no skills to do that... but try those tips and have fun.

The car will also downshift for you if you get too slow for a particular gear ... at least mine does. It's a little bit of an adjustment getting used to shifting manualy without taking your foot off the gas but, once you get past that, it's great fun, and a great way to enjoy your car.

I wouldnt suggest letting the car up and downshift for you while in manual mode... it does that only because it "HAS" to pretty much at both extreme of the rev counter.
