Once again - to the car with my Nokia N73.
As we can see it's not that good of an camera but better than the iNothing.
The lens, or the hole for it, is there for auto hi-beam!
Auto dimming mirror needs sensors on the other side
Love my gold rabbit...

Trust me, auto dimming mirrors need sensors on both sides to function properly...
There're the back and front sides and the left and right sides (depending on which way you are looking).
Ric MAY have meant something entirely different...

We are talking about the inside mirrow, I suppose.

In my point of view a car with the auto-dimming mirrors do darken the inside mirrow
(or even outside ones, but not on the E60)
when there is a light illumination from the rear, as a car with hi-beams would do.

Check it out yourself.
I don't know how else to explain it but if you don't believe me, go to your car in the daytime and cover the forward-facing sensor with your finger so it thinks it's dark outside. The rearward-facing sensor will pickup the daylight which simulates a car's headlights illuminating the sensor. The mirror(s) will dim.
If all three of your mirrors don't dim, it may be some sort of country specific option thing which is quite common with these cars...

On my car, all three mirrors darken when the common sensors in the center mirror detect the need to darken. As I explained above, there is one sensor that faces forward to detect ambient light and one sensor that faces rearward to detect headlights behind the vehicle. The mirror only darkens when rearward sensor picks up light while the forward sensor picks up dark.

In your new E60?
Where's the sensor that faces rearward at?
In mine no mirrow does it.
Therefore I need the "Clown Nose" to dim the inside mirrow if needed.
Outside mirrows, forget it.
