I have an 04 530i and the issue that keeps coming back is the "Active Steering Malfunction", i had it fixed multiple times at the dealership but it still pops up every now and then.

At the moment you can get a 525i with around 70,000km or a 530i with about 90,000km in that price range. In a year or so I'm hoping we will see more models around $35,000.

Do you guys know if there is much difference in fuel economy between the 530i & 525i? On is 3 ltr and other 2.5 ltr.
In terms of speed, the 530 has more power and our cars are heavy so yes it will easily be faster than the 525. For fuel economy - I drive about 19 miles each way to work, and a tank will last me about 8-10 days depending on how Id rive and how much I drive on the weekends. When I was researching my car before buying the 525 actually got slightly less fuel economy than the 530, which I attributed to the lower power trying to push a heavy car needing more fuel to do it.

I don't think that there is a significant difference at all between the 525 and 530 in gas. A tank of gas would last me around 5 - 6 days depending on how I drove.

In the end it comes down to service. If the previous owner hasn't been taking care of the car then I would steer clear of that.
LOL funny you should mention that, I have the Passenger Restraint System warning on right now. I have to find time to go to the dealer to get it taken care of.
It is best of you can buy the car with a warranty and history.

mileage alteration.

check the pedals for unusual wear in the brake and accelerator.

i bought one which had been clocked

it turns out it had done around 100k miles not 30k

this is due to the wear on the bushes and the brakes and the discs.

be careful of this

So far from what am reading its looking positive. The E60 doesnt seam to have any major flaws that would empty my wallet down the track.

I originally had my eye on the Audi A4 B7. But I found out that the 7 speed gear box is a common problem on the car costing thousands to replace. I then found out the A4 B7 Quottro's 6 speed gear box is a better choice. But looking at Quottro prices, they are pretty much the same as the E60.

I also find it quite amusing that the BMW 3 series 325i (or any 6 cyl model) costs the same or more then the E60. Plus I am not a fan of the 3 series. The 4 cyl is too slow and all the 3 series sedans in Australia are not even made in the fatherland, Germany. I prefer not to spend Germany car money on something that isn't even made in Germany. The E60 is.

WOW!!!! that's crazy. I just sold my 04 530i for 13000 to a friend of mine. The car had only 34000 miles. Many people didn't want to believe me but it is what it is I have not altered anything or done anything to the milage.
No Ferris Bueller tricks... ex. ferrari on jacks in reverse

Oh my goodness... if you were in Australia your BMW would easily fetch $30,000US with that kind of milage and year... oh how I wish cars here were the prices you guys get them for.
