anyone know how to hook up a z4 sport button on a e60 pre lci?

Where's the 'like' button?
Now, for the switch, if your multimeter has a beep function and you can prove it works by touching the probes together and hear the beep, it should be no problem getting the NO contact figured out. Maybe if you had a friend over to hold the switch whilst you do the probing? Or maybe try again after a few Wotney's Red Barrel?

You have the switch. If you do take it apart, take some pictures. In my world a switch has NO (normally open contacts that 'make' when you press), NC (normally closed contacts that 'make' when the switch is released). Other terminals for lights or indicators.
If this switch has no NO or NC combinations that you can find, you're either doing it wrong or the switch is opto-isolated or Hall. I wouldn't put anything past BMW - they sometimes use very strange technology.
Or you could try it with a good single malt Scotch.

It's similar to the buttons found in video game controllers and such where there's a conductive membrane that causes the resistance to change when pressed.
