I asked Geico if I would get a discount since BMW Assist can function like Lo-Jack. They said no, they only give a discount to actual Lo-Jack, not to any other competing services even if they provide the same functionality.

Anyone here manage to get a discount?

im using GEICO and will be finding out later if i can also get a discount for BMW Assist on my 6er..i am having Lojack installed as well so i dont know if they will discount for both,... but it actually isnt the same functionality so thats why they may not discount...BMW Assist uses satellite recovery via BMW NA, while LoJack is used with tracking device within police cars...also, Assist is a pay for service so they would need to have some evidence that it is active yearly while Lojack is a one time fee that is always applicable...

I'll call and ask and then post. I did not know about the discount.

Yeah, I think that BMW Assist needs a copy of a police report before it will initiate a recovery. By then it's way too late. Also, the issue that many insurers claim to have is that the layout of wiring and installation of the factory sat stuff is known and with a little research can be defeated in a few seconds by a knowledgeable thief. Snip snip. Lo-Jack is generally hidden, and it's not uncommon for the transmitter location to vary from car to car making them harder to find and defeat.

I have State Farm and they wouldn't give me a discount, I told them that BMW Assist is a Theft Recovery System and they said, NO WAY JOSE, Lo-Jack is the only one. BS thats what I told them. Bummer

Heh, I have State Farm too - I think my agent is more diplomatic - she just kinda said, "oh great" in response to my claims of having a theft recovery system. Like I'd even know if she were giving me a discount - she gave me the quote and that was that.

I have AAA and they didn't give me any type of discount for having BMW Assist. My insurance seems kinda high for a car that's not the primary vehicle but I guess when you buy a car worth $60k, obviously it costs more to repair it if something were ever to happen. Knock on wood.

Geico gave me a no-go on a discount for Vehicle Recovery. They basically said that because it's not police activated it doesn't qualify.

I got a whopping $5 discount (hey...but that's every 6 months...).
