Anyone have ever replaced the vibration absorber on muffler?
Item #8 in the realoem diagram below
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=18_0532
When my 545i idles and I place my foot on the end of tail pipe you can feel distinct vibration and think this part maybe the culprit but am reluctant to just throw $100 at it...and/or rubber hangers.
This absorber just hangs on the side of the muffler pipe in midair...
Weird....
Have been chasing this annoying vibration/droning when idling at 500rpm

Are you sure it's not the rubber mounts in front and behind the muffler is the actual problem?

Not sure of anything, Al the rubbers are suspect and the same age and likely hardened some, but then again replacing might not make any difference?...

I think that you are experiencing a normal phenomenon. The role of the hangers and absorbers, as you call them, is to let the exhaust system vibrate as it should, but not transmit the vibration to the body.
Not sure that you have a problem, especially if there is no noise problem due to the vibrating muffler touching something other than the isolating hangers.

No not really as they came to mind originally as well but I disregarded them as I thought there would be some clunking going on when revving the engine, maybe incorrect assumption on my part?
See my problem is only at low idle, and warm engine most of the time but NOT always.

Do you feel any vibration inside the car?
Lift the car up, let the engine run and check the pipe. If i remember well there are 2 "rubber hangers". One at the end and one in the middle.
Also check the tranny + engine mounts.
