I went from an '01 740iL sport to my '07 550i sport 6mt.

Its rare that I miss the full sized car. Now and then, I have a carful, but its less than once a week, maybe even less than every two weeks, so most the time, its just me, and the car is plenty big enough. Feels big, rides very solidly. Trunk is wonderful.

Every now and then, I think about a full sized 7 car again, but I now wonder if I would miss the agility and performance of the 550i.

If you have people in your car all the time - adults, that is...then ponder it. Otherwise, I doubt you will notice the difference. My kids have plenty of room in the back. My 250 lb law partners arent as comfy as in the 740iL, but again, my car is for me, not them, so I'm not terribly concerned...

The E60's seem to ride like a full sized car on the expressway, so I say "go for it".

thanks for all the replies fellas. im not to concerned about the power loss from a V12 to a turboV6/V8 but more concerned about reliability. i wouldnt mind getting a new 750 but the 7 has tons of problems and the v12 makes things worse. im probably going to go test drive a 550 and lexus Ls 460 L soon when the snow clears up here. ive already driven the 535 for a few weeks a while ago when i got it as a curtsey car. how is the 5 for reliability? my 7 was in the shop on average 1.5 weeks every 1.5 months

haven't seen too many issues/complaints posted about reliability. Only major issue I've seen with the I6 TT/535 is problems with the fuel pump (resolved with a trip to the dealer and new pump). Haven't read anything major about 550's/V8's. Like any other car, BMW or not you're always at risk for issues, but at least it will be under BMW warranty. I read your post in the other thread regarding Westcoast550's e60....get in one already

Yeah, one of those left me standing on I35E last Thursday night

I pulled up next to him on the freeway and apparently
he thought I wanted to race him, cuz he took off like a
bat out of hell
