you must be a beefcake-I felt it prety heavy to wheel around town-so what exactly dont you miss about it-this makes no sense!! Unless you prefer heavy steering around town and loose steering on the highway-I just dont get people Sounds like you dont track so dont give me that answer
Um, where do you live?

Had a 2004 545i SMG Sport with AS. New 08 550i Sport 6MT does not have AS. Noticed a small difference for the first day or so, and couldn't care less now. Considering it's a $1,500 option, I would absolutely suggest saving the money if it means something to you.

I like AS and it was included in the Sports Package when I got the car... I've driven a few Loners without AS and found them to be different... I did notice that the steering was looser on highway speeds and perfered my car Sooo much more but I always thought that was because the cars I got were 325s and 525s without sports package so I took it as a non-sports package difference... Never thought that it was AS that sharpened the steering at high speeds...

I never had a problem with mine so *knock on wood 545 times * I would probably get it again...

dont have a 550 but on me 530i, with AS its more comfortable doing tight maneuvers IMO, and handles lighter. if u want to 'feel' the turn/road, go without AS. it just depends on your driving style and expectations. e60 is geared more to comfort, then sport IMO. if theres an option for rear reclining seats i would slap that on me car.. but then again, it depends on your style. more comfort= AS, more 'feel' of the road= nonAS
