Anybody, please (weird CD player issue)

My single CD player in 2004 E60 doesnt start playing after a CD (original, propper one) gets in, and, wich is strange, the CD player tab in Entertainment menu (there are AM, FM and CD tabs) stays blank, inactive, i cant even press it.
If anybody's got a clue what the problem might be, please share

oh yeh , i tried different ones, doesnt make any difference. right, it simply doesnt play i would assume the player is broken but that inactive CD tab in idrive menu confuses me, might be smth with software

I think the tab remains inactive until a CD is properly recognized by the hardware. Sure, the issue could be software only but I wouldn't rule out hardware...
