sorry to hear that bro...i had the same issue... when i had bought my car from a used car dealer i had taken the car to my mechanic to check it out before i bought it...everythings was in perfect condition but i had come to the conclusin that there were 3 cracked rims only one was leaking the rest were cracked and throughout time they would eventually leak. long story short the dealer finally got me 4 of the exact same rims, used but good condition. apparently this is common with oem factory rims from bmw. not only on 5 series but the 3 also... im sure of the 1,6,or 7 series.

I think the best solution is to go with smaller rims and higher profile tires. That will also be easier on the wallet as well. Got the same problems around here with potholes. Hope you find a suitable solution.

I run 20" ACS wheels. I hit a pothole going pretty dang fast and cracked one, it was $100 to have it welded.

What model car and which wheels do you have?
What do you inflate your tires to?
I'd like to think in MN we have some of the worst roads and I've never cracked a BMW wheel (knock on wood)

I have had good luck with BBS. CH's on my E39 and LM's on my E60. Never a bend or crack and they ride very well.
Roads up here in MA are pretty bad...
I do however also run pretty small wheels considering what some people use. I had 17's on my E39 and I use 18's on my E60 which gives me enough sidewall for the tire to absorb most impacts.

You should be able to run a 19" or 20" high quality wheel with no problems. Preferably forged. I suggest Volk personally for their styling, quality, strength, and weight. Alloy Technic is also a great high strength forged wheel!

I have had cracks in two of my rims. One I replaced for nearly $500 and the other I got repaired for $250. There are lots of rim repair shops that safely fix rim dents and cracks. I am not sure of the cause since I am pretty sure that i never hit anything hard enough to cause a crack. I often wonder if the rims were weakend or initially cracked during runflat removal and replacement. I watched them being changed once and it was an ugly site. The sidewalls are very stiff and make it very difficult to remove and install the tires. The tech had to use a lot more force than I think the alloy wheels were built to withstand. The leaks / cracks did not show up for quite some time afterward, but I gotta wonder if it just took that long for the cracks to grow large enough to leak air. I run non-runflats now and hope that's the end of cracked rims for me.
